Chief Financial Officer - Insurance

Our client is a dynamic and fast-growing insurance company that have experienced parabolic growth over the past four years. The client operates as an insurance intermediary focusing on managing claims and LAE expenses for quota share reinsurance companies. The is also focusing on utilizing AI innovation to increase probability and accelerate growth.

This role, is a newly created CFO position to build out the firms accounting department and become an integral part of our seasoned management team.

The compensation for this role ranges from 200-280k base salary with 80% bonus target (split between annual bonus and equity). This role sits remotely, however there is anticipated to travel to NY/NJ for the first 6 months.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead accounting team (currently outsourced)
  • Lead the financial statement close for both US GAAP and Tax so that statements are complete, timely and accurate, including consolidation of multiple stop loss carriers
  • Work with carriers to ensure bordereaux are properly reflected in the accounting systems
  • Continuously strengthen and monitor the control environment ensuring appropriate control design, effectiveness and documentation
  • Responsible for financial reporting including quarterly financial statement packages statements, audited financial statements and regulatory filings and loan compliance
  • Develop accounting policies for core business and complex transactions including monitoring and assessing impact of new accounting standards and reporting requirements
  • Operationalize internal and external reinsurance programs
  • Stop Loss Accounting oversight
  • Assess collateral requirements, provide projections and manage collateral
  • Investment accounting oversight for all entities
  • Lead strategic initiatives such as financial system implementations and executing on our target operating model
  • Oversee external service providers as needed; i.e. premium tax preparers, investment managers, auditors, etc.
  • Perform a variety of analysis to support a growing business
  • Work with regulators in forming new entities/cells
  • Create and continuously improve processes
  • Lead a growing team providing effective coaching and prioritization of deliverables

Experience And Qualifications

  • Experienced insurance accounting professional with depth of knowledge in US GAAP
  • Experience with complex reinsurance agreements required
  • Experience with Commercial lines admitted and non-admitted program business, preferred, including managing collateral requirements
  • Strong leadership capabilities and willingness to be hands on driving execution and change where needed
  • Financial system implementation experience and experience building out accounting functions from scratch
  • Highly motivated and takes pride in their work and has a conscientious and diligent work ethic
  • Approachable and works well both in a team and individually
  • Competent with Microsoft software packages (Excel, Word & PowerPoint) and Quickbooks
