Job Summary: Oliver James is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join their team as the Director of Reinsurance Accounting and Operations. In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the reinsurance accounting and operations functions within the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Reinsurance Accounting Management:

    • Lead the development and implementation of reinsurance accounting policies and procedures.
    • Ensure accurate and timely recording of reinsurance transactions and financial entries.
    • Collaborate with the finance team to prepare financial statements and reports related to reinsurance activities.
  2. Operations Oversight:

    • Manage the end-to-end reinsurance operations, including cessions, placements, and claims.
    • Monitor and enhance operational efficiency through process improvements and automation.
    • Collaborate with underwriting and claims departments to ensure seamless integration of reinsurance processes.
  3. Relationship Management:

    • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with reinsurance brokers and partners.
    • Collaborate with external stakeholders to negotiate and structure reinsurance agreements.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for reinsurance-related queries and issues.
  4. Risk Analysis and Compliance:

    • Conduct regular risk assessments on reinsurance portfolios and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
    • Implement controls to manage and mitigate risks associated with reinsurance activities.
  5. Team Leadership:

    • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of reinsurance accounting and operations professionals.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the department.
    • Facilitate ongoing training and development to ensure the team's continuous growth.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in reinsurance accounting and operations within the P&C insurance industry.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and reinsurance contract structures.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with a track record of successfully managing teams.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to drive process improvements and implement best practices.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
