Job Title: Reinsurance Accounting Manager

Location: Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill

Position Overview: As a Reinsurance Accounting Manager, you will play a crucial role in managing the reinsurance accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards. You will oversee the accounting activities related to reinsurance transactions, provide leadership to the accounting team, and collaborate with various departments to support the company's financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day reinsurance accounting operations, including the preparation and review of financial statements, reinsurance settlements, and related reports.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and statutory accounting principles, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the reconciliation of reinsurance accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Lead and mentor a team of reinsurance accountants, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with internal departments such as underwriting, claims, and actuarial to ensure accurate and timely processing of reinsurance transactions.
  • Monitor and analyze reinsurance agreements and contracts to ensure proper accounting treatment and compliance.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of reinsurance accounting policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to senior management, highlighting key metrics and trends.
  • Participate in audits and regulatory examinations, providing necessary documentation and support.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in reinsurance accounting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in reinsurance accounting, preferably within the life and annuities sector.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and statutory accounting principles related to reinsurance.
  • Proven experience in managing and leading a team of accounting professionals.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
