We're looking for an experienced Underwriting Manager to join a leading organisation in an exciting role. Our client is one of the fastest growing fintech companies in the UK. As the Underwriting Manager, you will be directly responsible for leading and managing our underwriting department, ensuring the timely and accurate assessment of credit applications while maintaining strict compliance with company policies, regulatory guidelines, and risk management practices. Your role will be critical in shaping and implementing underwriting strategies to drive business growth while effectively managing credit risk.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of Underwriters, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Set clear performance objectives, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
- As an Underwriting subject matter expert, work alongside key stakeholders to input into key requirements and challenge assumptions.
- Establish and maintain underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistent and accurate assessments.
- Regularly review and update underwriting processes to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and customer experience.
- Support the team in evaluating Hire Purchase applications, assessing creditworthiness, considering factors such as application data, affordability, credit referencing agency reports and open banking data.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements as set out by Compliance Team, including but not limited to Consumer Credit Act, Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) guidelines, and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as Sales, Product, Quality Assurance, Compliance and Credit Risk, to understand business objectives, ensure underwriting decisions support organisational goals and improve underwriter efficiency through technological change.
Your Experience:
- Proven experience in underwriting and credit risk management within the motor finance sector.
- Knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks, including Consumer Credit Act, FCA guidelines, and AML regulations.
- Excellent decision-making skills, with the ability to evaluate complex financial information and assess credit risk.
